Russia: Then and Now, Episode 6: Special Guest Serge Lubomudrov
Streaming Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 9am PT/Noon ET/16:00 GMT
Kevin Michelizzi and I are proud to host Serge Lubomudrov on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 9 am PT/ Noon ET / 16:00 GMT.
Serge lives in Chicago, Illinois, where he works for a printing company. He was born in the USSR, in Kaluga, shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis, and he grew up in Odessa, in the Soviet Republic of Ukraine. After serving in the Soviet Army for two years, he was admitted to the University in Odessa where he specialized in “classical history” — that is, the study of ancient Greeks and Romans. He graduated in 1988 but further studies were “rudely interrupted,” he says, by the dissolution of the USSR.
Serge has been living in Chicago since 1995 and working for the printing company where he originally trained as a typesetter, but these days he works in customer service. “And when I don’t help customers to un-screw up what they manage to screw up,” Serge says, “I read, ride my bicycle, drink good beer and travel, whenever I can.” He also used to run until a knee injury slowed him down.
We look forward to talking with Serge next Saturday about his life in the USSR, his immigration to the States, and some of the differences he has seen between our countries.
